Students in Mrs. Morse's Culinary Arts class recently spent time in the Foods Lab writing their own recipes for an appetizer. After learning about how to identify the five parts of a recipe and annotating a recipe, they were challenged to write their own. Students had to use what ingredients were available and through trial and error, created an appetizer recipe that will be a part of a class cookbook.

Second grade students had a great time playing Nutrition Bingo with Mr. Manuel during Health class!

Throughout the month of October, middle school and high school students worked together on a Halloween collaborative art project. After all the pieces were colored, an image of a haunted house came together. Great job students!

For Halloween this year, teachers at H.B. Patch dressed as characters from Aaron Reynolds' books, "Creepy Carrots", "Creepy Pair of Underwear", and "Creepy Crayons". Throughout the day teachers took turns reading to different classes so the students heard all three books throughout the day. This experience allowed for discussions about similarities and differences between the books and opinions of which book was their favorite and why. It was a great day of learning and fun.

Last month, students in Mrs. Becker's 7th grade class social studies classes wrote and performed skits about time periods throughout early Europe. They all did a great job!

Congratulations to our Fox Paw winners from H.B. Patch and OES for the week ending on November 2, 2023. Thanks for exemplifying the Fox Four of being safe, responsible, respectful, and positive!

Día de los Muertos is a colorful celebration and a time to remember loved ones. The holiday originated in Mexico, but is now celebrated all over Latin America on November 1-2. Some common elements include ofrendas or altars, calaveras de azúcar or sugar skulls, marigolds and pan de muerto.
This year, Mrs. Babcock's second grade class had a special learning experience about Dia de los Muertos led by one of their classmates.
Melissa and her mom made pan de muerto for the class to try, which is bread of the dead. Additionally, Melissa wrote a poem and read it to the class. What a leader! Way to shine Melissa!!

Get Involved: This winter, there are multiple extracurricular opportunities for our School District of Omro High School students to be involved with.

The 4K Bridges Math unit in October was all about pumpkins!
The students patterned, counted, weighed, and measured pumpkins of all sizes.
For this activity, students had to cut a piece of string to the length they thought they needed to fit around the pumpkin. Miss Kelly made a paper "belt" to fit around the middle, and students had to bring their string up to compare if their string was shorter, longer, or the same length as the belt!

On Tuesday, October 10, our OHS students had their first Fox Time with Griffin!
Lindsay Loewe, from Collaborative Wellness, will be hosting 6 Fox Times (one per week six weeks in a row) offering a variety of SEL activities.
This week, students participated in an activity that required teamwork and communication. After, Lindsay led a conversation about leadership and how to work through frustration.
The students also had some time to interact with Griffin, a Licensed Therapy Dog and K9 Good Citizen through the Fox Valley Humane Association.
