THRIVING TOGETHER THURSDAY

Mrs. Babcock's students celebrated Australia Day with a guest speaker and Native Aussie Tanya. She shared many aspects of her culture with the class. They were appreciative learning from their new mate!

Winnebago County Sheriff's Office recently used social media to remind communities about school bus safety while driving, and we thought it would be a good idea to help that communication.

A few reminders:
~ drivers must stop when they see flashing red warning lights on a school bus
~ vehicles may not proceed until the bus begins moving and the red warning lights are turned off
~ extended stop sign arms are an additional communication; however, all vehicles must stop, whether the stop sign arm is extended or not, if the red warning lights are flashing

Adhering to these guidelines helps to keep everyone safe.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Omro High School selects a senior student each month to be the Student of the Month. Seniors are selected for their academic successes, leadership abilities, citizenship, and extracurricular activities. The seniors who are selected for this honor are also invited to attend an American Legion meeting for recognition by the sponsoring organization and may go on the ballot to be a graduation speaker.

The January Student of the Month is Lainey.

Throughout high school, Lainey has been involved with volleyball and softball. Additionally, Lainey is an active member of Sources of Strength, Book Club, Plant Club, Spanish Club, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, and is the class president for the graduating class of 2026. Lainey volunteers her time with Omro Literacy and STEAM nights, concession stands for school events, 4K summer school, Shopping Day with Kids, and at the EAA.

Outside of school, Lainey enjoys taking care of her three dogs, working at a doggy daycare, as well as painting or drawing with oil pastels.

After graduation, she plans to attend college at Purdue or Madison, majoring in engineering.

On Wednesday, January 21, eleven Omro High School Band members were selected to participate in the biannual Flyway Conference Honors Band at Horace Mann High School in North Fond du Lac. The Honors band consisted of 75 students across the conference. Under the Direction of Dr. Devin Otto, Director of Bands, UW-Oshkosh, students worked from 9am until 4pm rehearsing for the first time together to later perform an evening concert that day. Bravo, students!

Enjoy a night off of cooking by visiting OoMPA's Chili Supper tomorrow (January 22, 2026). Proceeds of this event support the District's PK-12 music program.

Senior CAPP Speech students kicked off their semester with their first impromptu speech. Students selected unique items from a tub with objects such as: a paper cup, plush basketball, crazy headbands, a puppet, etc. They were then asked by Mrs. Miller, their instructor, to say how their object was like public speaking or communication. Creativity, laughs, and impressive answers were given by students and their partner.
This semester will consist of an introduction speech, persuasive speech, a special occasion speech, and several other presentations for the course.

Sophomores in Mrs. Miller's English classes are now beginning their short story unit. They will be identifying, discussing , and explaining short story elements in several short stories they will read in class together.

Students, during a Fox Time, created a bulletin board showing off several literary devices.

Students in Mrs. Morse's World of Children course concluded their class by creating Preschool Lesson Plans. They were given a scenario and theme to follow. Their task was to develop a lesson plan that they would present to a group of preschool children that would include reading a book, singing a song/fingerplay, choosing developmentally appropriate toys, constructing an art project and creating some nutritional snacks.

On Friday, January 16, OMS held a brief recognition program during Fox Time. The school celebrated 2nd quarter accomplishments. A few highlights are:

-- 64% of students being recognized for their GPA
-- 31% of students being recognized for all 3s in Life and Career Skills
-- 56% of students recognized for participating in extracurricular activities
