What began decades ago as a group of community leaders around a table with the goal of bringing some extra cheer to area students has become a tradition in Omro so heartfelt that those involved might say it starts their Christmas season. A combined effort of Omro School District Staff and high school students along with generous community supporters allow dozens of Omro students 4K through 5th grade, to once again be embraced with the true spirit of the season. Every year, a few weeks prior to Christmas, the students start their day enjoying a donated breakfast with their high school companion. Then they load donated buses from Lamers and head out to shop at Target for necessity items and a fun gift. The group shops for an hour and then returns to school to wrap their gifts and then they will enjoy a donated lunch from Piggly Wiggly and treats made by high school students and staff. This event is sponsored through fundraisers and personal donations from the Omro community and surrounding areas. The Shopping Day with Kids team wishes to thank everyone who has supported this event in the past and to all who continue to make this program successful. We are in need of monetary donations to continue this wonderful program. Donations are welcomed and accepted all year long. If you are interested in making a donation to this event, please make your donation out to Shopping Day with Kids and bring it to any school office or mail it to: Omro High School Re: Shopping Day with Kids 455 Fox Trail Omro, WI 54963

This week’s Omro Staff Spotlight features Ms. Alesha Neitzke. She is a reading intervention teacher, supporting students at both H.B. Patch and Omro Elementary. Alesha is in her thirteenth year here in Omro, and fourteenth year in education. Alesha likes to spend time reading ,working out, camping, gardening, and spending time with her kids and friends. When asked about a favorite motivational saying, she shared a quote by Lady Bird Johnson, “Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.” Thank you, Ms. Neitzke, for all you do for our students!

Sheri Egan, an aide at H.B. Patch, and her family recently hosted the kindergarten students at Egan Family Dairy, Inc of Omro. This field trip was used as a fabulous ending for the students' Plants and Animals science unit. During this trip they learned about the importance of caring for the cows, the milking process, and the 14 types of products that can be made from cow's milk and all about the different equipment used on a farm. Students got to try one of those products out as they made their own butter by shaking up small jars of cream and then eating it on a cracker! Everyone got to see the stages of a calf's life and how they move from barn to barn based on their age. The newborn staging area was definitely a favorite as the students were able to give the calves warm bottles of water. At the conclusion of the trip the Egan's gifted all the students with some fun items including cow hats, a story book about dairy farms, a pencil and ice cream cups. Thank you so much to the entire Egan family!

Students in Mrs. Morse's Culinary Arts class recently spent time in the Foods Lab writing their own recipes for an appetizer. After learning about how to identify the five parts of a recipe and annotating a recipe, they were challenged to write their own. Students had to use what ingredients were available and through trial and error, created an appetizer recipe that will be a part of a class cookbook.

For Halloween this year, teachers at H.B. Patch dressed as characters from Aaron Reynolds' books, "Creepy Carrots", "Creepy Pair of Underwear", and "Creepy Crayons". Throughout the day teachers took turns reading to different classes so the students heard all three books throughout the day. This experience allowed for discussions about similarities and differences between the books and opinions of which book was their favorite and why. It was a great day of learning and fun.
