4k students had their annual "Paper Mache Day" earlier in November. They each received a balloon and covered it with a layer of newspaper and then a layer of brown paper, all held together with goop! Then they had their foot traced to cut out, which enabled them to make the turkey head by adding eyes, a beak, and a wattle. They each had to tell 5 things they were thankful for to add to each feather. We would like to thank the moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and big brothers who came to help! A special thanks to Mrs. Potratz, Officer Peeters, and Mrs. Bernier for stopping by to get messy with us!

On November 15, members of the Spanish Club went to a Yolotl Hearts workshop at the Latino Arts Community Center in Milwaukee. They learned about the history of the hearts, starting with the original painting by Pompeo Batoni in 1767, then brought to the new world by Catholic Missionaries. Nowadays, the hearts, commonly called Milagros, or Miracles, are often symbolic of something a person is thankful for or worried about. They are just as commonly used simply as a decoration. Students had the opportunity to paint their own hearts, and they did an outstanding job! Their creativity and artistic ability impressed Jessica, our teacher for the day.

This week’s Omro Staff Spotlight features Mrs. Kendra Krier. She is an English/Language Arts teacher at Omro Middle School. Kendra is in her tenth year here in Omro, and eleventh year in education. Kendra enjoys as much time as possible with her family, along with reading and camping. When asked about a favorite motivational saying, she shared a quote by Mae West, “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” Thank you, Mrs. Krier, for all you do for our students!

Kindergarten has been learning about voting, candidates, ballots and polls. We read the book, My Teacher For President by Kay Winters and had a mock campaign where Mrs. Mathe, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Henry and Mrs. Prickett ran for president. It was quite the race! Mrs. Martin campaigned for ice cream everyday, Mrs. Mathe campaigned to save the school money and have students do all the cleaning, Mrs. Henry campaigned to have recess all afternoon, and Mrs. Prickett campaigned to have homework every night . When the votes were counted the winner was Mrs. Martin! Enjoy some pictures of our lessons!
