OHS Student of the Month for December is Clara.
Throughout high school, Clara has been a part of Cheerleading, Powerlifting, and Soccer along with Key Club, National Honor Society, Book Club, Art Club, Fab-Lab Club, and Sources of Strength.
Outside of school, Clara enjoys weightlifting, swimming, music, and sustainable fashion. Additionally, Clara has volunteered with Salvation Army bell ringing, highway cleanup, Feeding America, and Red Cross blood drives.
After graduation, Clara plans to attend UW-Madison, majoring in Nuclear Engineering. Long term, she said wants to “find new ways to implement clean energy and make an impact in a traditionally male-dominated field.”

On Thursday, December 21, from 10:00-11:00 am, the first grade classes will be spreading holiday cheer by caroling in the neighborhood around H.B. Patch. If you live or work somewhere within the area on the shared map and would like a visit from the carolers at that time, please leave your porch light on or send an email to ecime@omro.k12.wi.us with your address. We will do our very best to get to everyone!

The OMS Band and Choir students have been working hard to prepare an excellent concert for you this evening (Thursday, December 14). The concert begins at 6:30 pm, with the doors opening at 5:45 pm.
See you there!

In Mrs. Babcock's second grade class, US History came alive through a simulation earlier this month. Her class is learning about the events that led up to the Revolutionary War, and she did a three hour mini lesson to explain taxation without representation. Each student was a colonist and given a day’s wage but as she imposed tax by will their money dwindled. The students displayed raw emotions and frustrations. They gave up using spoons so they wouldn’t have to pay a tax and their pencil sharpeners were seized when they wouldn’t pay a tax for having them. It was an experiment to remember even after some of them were “sentenced” to debtor’s prison in Australia.

Thank you, Marcus Theatres for your support!

This week’s Omro Staff Spotlight features Mrs. Kristen Whitney. She is a science teacher at Omro High School. Kristen is in her first year here in Omro and fourteenth year in education.
Kristen enjoys attending her children’s 4H and sporting events, along with fishing, bowling, cooking, baking, gardening, and reading.
When asked what she enjoys about working for the School District of Omro, she said, “As a new staff member, my favorite thing is how welcoming and helpful everyone has been. I already feel like a part of the Fox Family!”
Thank you, Mrs. Whitney, for all you do for our students!

Tonight (Thursday, December 7, 2023) is the 2023 Elementary Winter Concert! Students in Kindergarten, grade two, and grade four have been hard at work to prepare a performance for all to enjoy.

Mrs. Thomas and some of her students have been hard at work to write and publish a book titled, "Oh English." According to the Dear Reader page, "the title was inspired by a second-grade classroom in the School District of Omro. During word study, if a rule or pattern contradicted something already taught, the teacher would put her hand to her forehead to signal the class to say, 'Oh, English'." This resonated with Mrs. Thomas, as many of us have had that very same thought when learning about the English language.
The book that students have written creates a rule guide to the more common patterns found in the English language. Students were fully engaged in the writing process, using text features to organize information, creating and revising rough drafts to become final drafts, and submitting their work to be published.
Congratulations to Mrs. Thomas and her OMS students on their soon-to-be-published piece. We are looking forward to having the book in our media center!
