Attention students grades 6-12 interested in joining the OHS Equestrian Team for the 2023/2024 season. There will be an organizational meeting Friday, June 30th in room #1709 at the high school at 7:00 pm. Park in the high school parking lot.

Recently, David Gjertson from Gjertson Design (a Wisconsin native and a student's great uncle) zoomed in live from Atlanta to talk to Mrs. Geracie's 4th grade class about his work as a landscape architect/urban planner and his son, Eric's, work as a 3D character artist/animator.
He shared drawings from projects he has done over the years, showed tools that he uses, and talked about his education and how he got to where he is today. He then shared his son's journey from doodling as an elementary student up through the work he currently does designing characters for video games. The meeting wrapped up with a tutorial on how to sketch and all students had a chance to sketch a barn/silo scene while he sketched them as a class. It was a fantastic opportunity and fun was had by all!
Thank you, Mr. Gjertson, for taking time out of your busy schedule to connect with our students here in Omro!

Omro High School Sources of Strength hosted a "Student Appreciation" Fox Time event in which staff and students participated in a variety of healthy activities around the school grounds. Groups played games like soccer, kickball, and sharks and minnows. Others took relaxing walks on the fitness trail or read books outside. Some got playful with bubbles and did sidewalk art. It was a fun way to celebrate the year together.

Ms. Downs' 3rd grade class became published authors last week!
The students wrote paragraphs about their heroes- someone who has had a positive influence on their life and exhibits heroic qualities. Students wrote about their parents, teachers, coaches, etc. Students also created their own illustrations to go with their paragraphs. The students then took their paragraphs through the writing process, making sure it was ready for the final step- publishing!
The published book, "Our Book of Heroes", has arrived and now they have their own piece of published writing to keep forever! Ms. Downs is very proud of their dedication and hard work.

Omro 6th graders completed a Cemetery Unit. Students were involved in sessions that centered around the origin of Memorial Day, learning the timeline of American wars, learning about funerals and honoring the deceased, and looking at the lichen that grows out at a cemetery. Students spent the afternoon going to the Omro Cemetery and placing flags on all the veteran's graves.

Our final Artist-of-the-Month for the 2022-2023 school year is Aviana. She is a first grader in Mrs. Behm's art class at HB Patch. Her Starry Night painting turned out beautiful, and she did a great job getting so much color into her sky and tree. Aviana's artwork this year has shown so much creativity. She always takes the time to do her neatest work.

In early May our High School Battle of the Books team went on a field trip to celebrate their hard work this season. Liam and Kayannah represented Omro High School in the Final State Test for Battle of the Books the last week of February.
On their field trip they visited 3 Little Free Libraries in Omro and Oshkosh to restock with books. After sharing their love of literacy with residents in Omro and Oshkosh they went to Barnes and Noble where they picked out 14 new books for our school library. Making a trip back to Oshkosh they finished off the day with lunch and a movie. Great job this Battle of the Books Season Liam and Kayannah!
