The School District of Omro is proposing two questions to voters on the November 3, 2020 ballot. One question seeks an operational referendum and the other seeks to borrow funds for building improvements and repairs.
Why:
Operating Referendum:
Question 1 requests $850,000 in annual operating funds, each year, for the next four years.
Funds would support operational priorities of:
- Technology Infrastructure
- Learning & Academics
- Safety & Security
Current needs are:
- Wireless Replacement
- Infrastructure Upgrades
- iPads
- Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Resources
- Learning Management Platforms
- Interactive TVs
- Cameras replacement
- Classroom furniture replacements
If approved by voters, the operating referendum will have no resulting net tax (levy) mill rate increase, because the district is paying off existing debt.
Capital Referendum:
Question 2 requests $9.4M in capital funds for the purpose of paying the cost of district-wide school improvement projects for educational programming; repairs and replacements; and safety and security. The projects consisting of capital maintenance, building infrastructure and site improvements, including roof replacement, HVAC upgrades and Americans with Disabilities Act updates; remodeling at district schools, including for a student fabrication lab; construction of a maintenance shop; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures, and equipment. These projects will address deferred maintenance and infrastructure needs.
